Qi Gong is perhaps one of the most misunderstood of all New Age practices. First of all, few people know how to pronounce the name correctly (it’s Chee Kung). Secondly, few can decide whether it’s a martial art or a relaxation technique (it can be both). And thirdly, many people wrongly assume that it was banned in China (that’s Falun Gong, not Qi Gong). Qi Gong is a series of breathing, relaxation and concentration exercises designed to bring the body’s energy, or qi, in harmony with itself,

By Ray Paulick As the wife of Joe Harper, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s president and CEO, Barbara Harper could enjoy a life of leisure, occupying her time with golf, tennis or ladies’ lunches. That’s not her style. For the last 20 years, she has volunteered countless hours helping tens of thousands of kids in the north coastal area of San Diego through her work with the San Dieguito Boys and Girls Club. It began at a fundraiser years ago, Harper said, when husband Joe w

As a golfer, your current form may define your success in the golf field. But without a good clubhead , even your perfect swing cannot do much, if you lack greater power or control over your ball. This is more true if you are playing golf on a professional level. When it comes to designing the new-age golf clubs, the new Powerbilt Air Force One Lineup from Powerbilt, has already created a revolution. Who could have imagined that the renowned Louisville-based company would come up with such

Re: “Athletes and technology,” July 30 editorial. When I read your editorial regarding new swimsuits ruining the sport, I laughed out loud. Improvements are a constant event in sports. Look at the shoes track stars wear. I’d hazard a guess that today’s shoes are much better than those worn by Jesse Owens. Look at baseball; players wear mitts that actually have a place for all of the fingers. The hardness of the ball changed. In tennis there are better racquets. Golf has better balls and club

What are risky businesses? These are the activities and actions that put us on the edge of what we call comfortable, and that challenge us to stretch our limits. Life takes many forms, and, inadvertently, we take risks without realizing it. We avoid, to a certain degree, the risks that we do know about in order to minimize the humiliation that could potentially occur. By immersing ourselves in any risky business, not only do we grow, but we also find new things to do and try. What do you get

by Ryse Edwards The mechanics of a golf swing are very complex. There are many major and minor movements your body makes throughout the process. It is because of the complex nature of the swing that makes it so easy for it to go wrong. Everything from your stance to your follow through has to be perfect. If you have even one simple flaw in your swing, the rest of your game will really have to pay the price for it. Since you can’t actually see what flaws you have when you are swinging a golf

by Frank Froggatt There are many golf club sets available on the market today. Examples of those types of sets could include various brand name sets such as Callaway, TaylorMade, Nike, etc. You can also find various types of hybrid sets that are a combination of the strengths of the different types of golf clubs which help to improve your game. In addition there are gender specific golf clubs. Obviously those two types of golf clubs include a women’s golf club set and a mens golf club set.

Back in the 1940’s and 50’s a number of futurists declared that flying cars were “just around the corner,” and that they would revolutionize the world of personal travel. That never quite happened, but almost 60 years later it is now possible to own a very similar contraption that promises to extend the utility of the personal airplane in a brand new direction. Terrafugia Transition’s Flying Car The Terrafugia Transition is less a flying car and more an airplane that can be safely driv
